Hawthorne, Florida

Hawthorne was founded as a railroad town back in the mid 1850's. Today, the old tracks are gone and the trackbed is now a Rails-to-Trails project tying Gainesville and Hawthorne together with a 15-mile bike and hike trail. And Hawthorne prides itself on being an authentic "Old Florida" settlement with more than 400 lakes and ponds within a ten-mile radius.
